Slowly but surely, Greater Cleveland has rebounded from the 2008 recession, with regional gains in job creation, industry mix and business performance. But our core city continues to lose jobs. Poverty and unemployment are three times higher in Cleveland than in the region as a whole, and about half of all children in the city live in poverty. If we invest in our core city, the entire region will benefit.
The Cleveland Foundation works to grow the region’s economy, from helping spur new business growth and embrace modern technologies, to reinvigorating Cleveland’s tried-and-true industries.
This year, your foundation:
- Invested in high-growth industry clusters
- Helped young people learn skills for in-demand local jobs
- Empowered female and minority entrepreneurs
- Revived the trades that made Cleveland a powerhouse
Economy By the Numbers
In the first three quarters of 2015, the Cleveland Foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $2.9 million to support economic development in Greater Cleveland.
